Highlights

Winner of the Seatrade Insider Cruise Award 2009 for the best shore excursion: “Innovative Shorex of the Year” - The Bluff Cove Team invites you on their exclusive tour to see penguins in their natural environment in the wild. After a scenic 20-minute drive by bus transfer to 4x4 vehicles for the “off road” safari adventure with experienced local drivers who will give an insight to Falkland farm life.On arrival at the Lagoon, you are met by knowledgeable rangers, and will be able to wander at their leisure around the penguin colony and along the sandy white beach. There are approx 1,000 pairs of Gentoo penguins, a growing colony of King penguins and visiting Magellanic penguins from nearby East Island. The site is very photogenic with a large lagoon and long sand beach which is occasionally patrolled by Sea Lions from East Island. Dolphins are regularly seen playing in the surf where the waves break on the beach. There are a large variety of sea-birds to see such as Snowy sheathbills, Southern giant petrels, Pied oyster catchers, White-rumped sandpipers, Two-banded plovers, Dolphin Gulls and South American terns.

The Sea Cabbage Café is tucked under a grass bank facing the beautiful white sand beach. In comfortable warm rooms, heated by a traditional peat stove, you can enjoy complimentary tea, coffee and hot chocolate and heaps of delicious home-made cakes, cookies, and scones. Local flavours served in the café include Diddle-Dee, a local shrub with edible red berries which are made into jam for the cream teas. New this season is the Bluff Cove Museum by the beach, depicting life in the Falklands and telling the story of Bluff Cove.
