This voyage takes you to some of the most captivating destinations of the Baltic Sea. Visit the larger cities of Scandinavia like beautiful Copenhagen and modern Helsinki before setting course for St. Petersburg in Russia. From here we call at Tallinn in Estonia before we end the voyage with an overnight stay in Stockholm.
On Bygdøy, a short ferry ride from the city centre, you will find the Fram museum, where Nansen’s original explorer ship Fram is placed. It’s a good idea to pay the museum a visit and acquaint yourself with Oslo’s sights before you check in to your comfortable cabin and the voyage begins.
Copenhagen was once a little fishing village of little regard but today it is the modern capital of Denmark. In Copenhagen, you find historical architecture, modern cafés, excellent shopping and interesting museums & galleries.
Today is spent sailing through the Baltic Sea. In addition to fish, this sea also provides amber, especially from its southern shores. The countries that line its shores have traditionally produced lumber, wood tar, flax, hemp and furs. All this has provided rich trading since the Roman times.
Helsinki is laid out with spacious boulevards interspersed with many gardens and parks. Architecturally, the city is a mixture of old and modern styles, with the Senate House and Great Church representing the older buildings, and the railroad station as a notable example of 19th century architecture.
Though the name has changed several times throughout history, the charm and beauty of this city situated on the river Neva has remained. Gracing the shores of the Baltic, St. Petersburg is a living monument to its founder, Peter the Great. Culture has always flourished in St. Petersburg due to the influences of Pushkin, Dostoyevsky, Pavlova, Nijinsky and Fabergé.
The capital of Estonia, Tallinn was once an important port in the Hanseatic League. The Danes, Germans and Russians have all left their imprint on Estonia. The aura of the 14th and 15th century still remains intact in central Tallinn’s medieval streets and picturesque houses. Many of these are beautifully restored and fascinating to explore.
Built on 14 islands and an ancient Viking fortress, Stockholm has been dubbed the “Venice of the North”. Dotted with parks and squares, the city is medieval and modern, offering some of the finest sights in all of Scandinavia. Enjoy an overnight stay onboard MS Fram whilst in port and take time to acquaint yourself with this lively city.
