Walk to Fort Shirley, set in spectacular Cabrits National Park, on this guided tour.

Fort Shirley is an important historical site for Dominica. Built between 1770 and 1815, it was abandoned in 1854 and is currently being restored. Explore this fascinating site and learn how African slave soldiers revolted and ended slavery in the British Empire.

From the fort’s vantage point, you can also revel in the soul-stirring vistas of Morne aux Diables volcano, stunning Prince Rupert Bay and the town of Portsmouth. At the end of your tour, you’ll enjoy refreshments in the Prince Rupert Tavern.

  • Remarks/requirements: Please dress according to the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes. Extra water, sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses are recommended.

  • Walking or Activity information: Involves physical activity on uneven surfaces and/or steep terrain. You may be expected to carry your own backpack and equipment. Not suitable for guests with limited mobility. There is approximately 0.3 miles of uphill walking to the fort.
