Hurtigruten in the Autumn

As summer fades the Norwegian coastline shifts from one beautiful season to another. The russets, ochres and rouges of Autumn creep across the landscape as we witness nature prepare for the long winter ahead.

The period of bright colours (16 Sep to 14 Nov)

From the deck, framed by an icy blue sky, see the deep blue sea where killer whales may be breaking surface. Even in September there may be a sprinkling of snow on the highest peaks.

Why the most beautiful voyage during autumn

Bright colours
The landscape is beautifully coloured in red, yellow, orange, green and blue.

The air
The Autumn air is very clear.

Snow
There may be snow on the highest mountains, and in the north.

Lights
The dark period is about to start, with the possibility of seeing the Northern Lights.

Killer whales
Killer whales come to the coast of Northern Norway in this period, so you may catch sight of them (Nov-Feb).
