Over the last 25 years, the festival has played host to a variety of famous international artists. Last year one of the world’s greatest ballet ensembles, The Mariinsky Ballet from St. Petersburg, was one of the festival’s highlights. This year the Northern Lights Festival celebrates its 25th anniversary, and audiences from all over the world can look forward to a fun-filled cultural event.
There is a contagious excitement around the festival, as music fans soak up Tromsø’s special atmosphere. Artists from around the world join Norwegian musicians in producing a lively program, with a wide range of music – from symphonic to soul. The Tromsø Concert Hall, the Arctic Cathedral and even your ship will be among the many venues playing host to a variety of events.
Hurtigruten sets the mood as we journey with MS Nordnorge from Bergen towards the Northern Lights Festival. The cultural program starts on board MS Nordnorge, with concerts taking place every day.
Performers from the Norwegian state opera will join students from the music conservatory of Tromsø University to perform a varied program from opera to folk and jazz.
If you are lucky, the spectacular Northern Lights, which have inspired countless painters, poets, musicians, choreographers and dancers, will provide nature’s own contribution to the festivities.
