Sandnessjøen is the centre of the municipality of Alstahaug in the county of Nordland, Norway, with a population of 5,716.
History

It was made a township in 1999. Sandnessjøen is located on the island of Alsten, along with the De syv søstre (The Seven Sisters) mountain range, 3,517 feet above sea level. Sandnessjøen was a separate municipality from 1899 to 1965, when it was incorporated into Alstahaug. The municipality was named Stamnes from 1899 to 1948.
