The story of Kjerringstupet will be presented, and you’ll also look at settlements located here more than 10,000 years ago. We then drive along the road through the town centre and stop at a viewpoint overlooking the Sydvaranger mines, where a short history is presented. From here we continue to the old Norwegian- Russian border where our guide tells us about the history and culture of the area, and we also visit a Norwegian military watch tower which is often manned. From the tower we can see the imposing Boris Gleb on the Russian side, and we will make a stop at the current border station to have coffee/tea and muffins. Finally we return to Kirkenes where you make a brief stop at Prestfjellet Mountain to enjoy its magnificent views of both the town and your waiting Hurtigruten ship.
