Arrival and departure information for The Svalbard Express

We are excited to welcome you on board MS Trollfjord to embark on a voyage deep into the Arctic Circle and the land of the Midnight Sun. Below you will find important arrival and departure information for all Svalbard Express voyages.

Please note that the information provided is subject to change, and some services described may not be included in your personal travel arrangements. For more information, please refer to your booking confirmation and individual itinerary.

It is necessary to bring a valid travel document, either passport or National ID, to enter Svalbard. We recommend bringing a passport, regardless of your citizenship. However, for Norwegian nationals and Schengen members, valid National ID (with travel permission) is also accepted. Please ensure you are aware of any additional entry requirements necessary for yourself. You may find more information at the Norwegian government site here , and the Visit Svalbard site here

Important: SMIF

All customers travelling on MS Trollfjord (on the Svalbard Express) must complete a Ship Manifest Information Form (SMIF) ahead of departure. Click here to complete and submit the form.

Pre-booked only: transfer from airport to hotel or port

To get to the city centre, take the Flybussen (the official airport shuttle bus) from platform A5 in front of the arrivals hall. The bus journey takes approximately 40 minutes from the airport to Bergen city center. You can find the transfer times on the official timetable. Click here to see a map of the terminal.

Once on the bus, you'll need to show the driver your applicable transfer voucher, which is found in your travel documents.

Arrival in Bergen | Day 1

Below you can find more information about the Flybussen stops and hotels, if included in your package.

You can check in to your hotel from 3:00pm, meaning the rest of the day is yours to explore Bergen. Breakfast will be provided at the hotel the following morning.

Embarking on MS Trollfjord | Day 2

After breakfast, a transfer bus (clearly marked with a ‘MS Trollfjord’ sign) will pick you up from your hotel and take you to the Jektevik Terminal ready for check-in. Pick-up times are as follows:

• 11:00am transfer: all cabins on Deck 8* and unassigned cabins

• 11:15am transfer: all cabins on Deck 7*

• 11:30am transfer: all cabins on Deck 6*

• 11:45am transfer: all cabins on Deck 4*

*Your cabin number starts with the applicable deck number

Once checked in, all guests must attend a safety briefing in the Guest Lounge Lecture Hall, located on the second floor of the terminal.

After boarding MS Trollfjord, lunch will be served between 12:00pm-2:00pm, and your cabin will be ready for you at 2:00pm. We’ll set sail at 2:30pm.

Departure from Bergen | Day 16

Your journey on board MS Trollfjord will come to an end at Jektevik Terminal in Bergen at 7:00am. All guests will need to go through customs when arriving to Bergen terminal.A Flybussen transfer will take you from the terminal to the airport, and exact transfer times will be given on board before you disembark. If the transfer is not included in your package, you can purchase it on board the ship.

If you have a late flight and prefer to travel to the airport later, you can store your luggage at Jektevik Terminal and take any official Flybussen airport transfer at your convenience. Please show your voucher to the bus driver.

Overnight in Bergen

You can check in to your hotel from 3:00pm, meaning the rest of the day is yours to explore Bergen. Breakfast will be provided at the hotel the following morning.

Guests disembarking in Longyearbyen will be subject to customs and passport control in Tromsø.

Disembarking in Longyearbyen | Day 7

Your voyage on board MS Trollfjord will come to an end in Longyearbyen at 1:00pm. Once you disembark, a transfer will take you to Radisson Blu Polar Hotel, where you can check in from 3:00pm. The rest of the afternoon is yours to explore as you wish.

Activities in Longyearbyen | Day 7

For your evening meal and activity, a transfer will be at the Radisson Blu Polar Hotel at 7:00pm to take you to Camp Barentz. We kindly ask that you be ready and at the front of the hotel 10 minutes prior. We’ll collect you for your excursion for a true Svalbard wilderness evening. There, you’ll enjoy drinks, a delicious light dinner of homemade reindeer bidos, and dessert in a cozy wooden cabin. At 10:00pm, we’ll head back to the hotel in Longyearbyen.

Although this is an indoor activity, we recommend warm, comfortable outdoor clothing and warm shoes, as the floor can be a little bit cold. Please note that clothing may smell of campfire smoke afterwards.

Activities in Longyearbyen | Day 8

After breakfast at your hotel, we’ll collect you at 8:15am for a mini adventure aboard hybrid-electric catamaran, MS Bard, to explore the magnificent landscapes of Isfjorden, Billefjord and the Nordenskiöld Glacier.

Please meet 10 minutes prior to departure in front of the Radisson Blu Polar Hotel. We recommend warm, comfortable outdoor clothing and shoes, hats, gloves, and sunglasses.

You’ll enjoy a light lunch before returning to your hotel at approximately 3:15pm. Beverages are available at an extra cost.

At 8:00pm, you’ll enjoy a three-course dinner including coffee at Restaurant Nansen in the Radisson Blu Polar Hotel.

Departure from Longyearbyen | Day 9

After breakfast, enjoy the morning in Longyearbyen. We recommend visiting Svalbard Church, The North Pole Expedition Museum, Svalbard Museum, or the Art Center Nordover.

Check-out is at 11:00am, however the hotel has a room to store luggage.

Lunch will be served at Restaurant Nansen in Radisson Blu Polar Hotel at 12:00pm, after which a transfer will take you to the airport at Longyearbyen, from where you’ll fly home. Please be sure to have your transfer voucher printed to hand to the driver.

Transfer to hotel | Day 1

From Longyearbyen airport, a transfer will take you to the Radisson Blu Polar Hotel, where check-in is available from 3:00pm. Please be sure to have your transfer voucher printed to hand to the driver. The hotel can store luggage for earlier arrivals. You are free to explore Longyearbyen for the rest of the afternoon. We recommend visiting Svalbard Church, The North Pole Expedition Museum, Svalbard Museum, or the Art Center Nordover.

Activities in Longyearbyen | Day 1

After breakfast in the hotel, your final morning in Longyearbyen is yours to spend as you like. Check-out is available until 11:00am, and luggage can be stored in the hotel if required.

Lunch will be served at Restaurant Nansen in Radisson Blu Polar Hotel at 12:00pm, after which a transfer will take you to MS Trollfjord, your home at sea for the next week. Settle in on board and we’ll set sail at 7:00pm.

Your journey on board MS Trollfjord will come to an end at Jektevik Terminal in Bergen at 7:00am. All guests will need to go through customs when arriving to Bergen terminal. A Flybussen transfer will take you from the terminal to the airport, and exact transfer times will be given on board before you disembark.

Please note that all luggage must be cleared through customs on arrival in Bergen and all half-voyage guests must go through passport control upon arrival in Bergen.

If you have a late flight and prefer to travel to the airport later, you can store your luggage at Jektevik Terminal and take any official Flybussen airport transfer at your convenience.
