Leaving the port of Santa Cruz, you'll pass the university town of La Laguna, situated in the Aguere Valley and the first capital of Tenerife island. Driving along the spine of the island, the road snakes up through the Esperanza Forest, and features eucalyptus and pine trees. As we climb higher, the greenery turns to ochre, gray, and blue, with the landscape turning to lava fields. Then, Mount Teide appears stunningly in the landscape.
Before reaching the national park of Las Cañadas, we'll stop to take photos. The national park was created in 1954, and covers an area of 50 square miles, and is, in fact, the interior crater of the mountain from which the cone of Mount Teide formed. In the lava fields of the Ucana Valley you will admire the 'Mirador del Dedo de Dios' - a lava-stone formation that looks like a finger and is called 'God's Finger'.
There will be more photo stops before returning to the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
