Tromsø is the largest town in northern Norway and brimming with polar history.
ENJOY A WALK IN THE FRESH AIR, AND LEARN ABOUT THE POLAR HEROES OF THE PAST
You’ll meet your guide on the pier, and then walk along the shore to the Polar Museum. On the way you will pass the statue of Roald Amundsen, the first explorer to reach the South Pole. We also visit the hunting monument and the market square, where you can enjoy a wonderful view of the Arctic Cathedral. The Polar Museum is located in an old customs house from the 1830s and features exhibits from Norway’s polar history, including the Arctic Ocean hunt and numerous other expeditions. We will see a film about the polar region made by Arctic hunters, and hear stories about winter trapping, seal hunting, and polar research.
EXPERIENCE THE OLDEST PUB IN TROMSØ
The tour continues along the main street to Ølhallen, Tromsø’s oldest pub, which was a popular meeting place for fishermen, hunters, and polar explorers. Here, you can taste beer from one of the world’s northernmost breweries, Mack, while one of the locals tells stories about how things were back in the ‘good, old days’.
