DAY 1: US to Norway
Depart the US to Bergen to start your voyage.
DAY 2: Bergen
Arrive in Bergen and transfer to your hotel for one night, including breakfast.
Your voyage starts in Bergen. Bergen proudly wears the nickname ‘Gateway to the Fjords’ for its supreme location close to the fjords of western Norway. However, Bergen is much more than a gateway. The city boasts a proud history, a rich cultural life, and an intimate urban city center, and is beautifully surrounded by seven mountains and several islands.
While you’re in Bergen, don’t miss Bryggen, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that reveals Bergen’s historical connection to the Hanseatic League, an organization founded by north German towns and German merchant communities abroad to protect their mutual trading interests. This stretch of wooden houses was built in the Middle Ages, and has been re-built several times after fires. After the last big fire in 1955, Bryggen was the subject of archaeological investigations, revealing proof of an early urban trading community. The remaining area has status as a protected area, has been made fireproof, and also features a museum.
DAY 3: Bergen/Departure
Enjoy breakfast at your hotel.
The 7-day Classic Voyage North (Bergen - Kirkenes) is perfect for culture seekers, with more daytime in the cities and towns that make this part of the world so unique. Daytime stops include visits to the cities of Ålesund, Trondheim, and Tromsø.
Spend your day in Bergen before an evening transfer to the ship – your voyage is about to begin. Relax and meet your fellow travelers.
DAY 4: Florø - Molde
We travel north to Ålesund, a beautiful town filled with perfect examples of Art Nouveau architecture. In the winter, we fascinate you with our expert-led lectures about the aurora borealis, the northern lights.
DAY 5: Kristiansund - Rørvik
The architecture and surroundings in Trondheim create a beautiful and almost-mythical setting, whether you are exploring the city by foot, bike, or boat. Visit the Nidaros Cathedral or take a guided tour to discover the city’s most striking features.
DAY 6: Brønnøysund - Svolvær
The Arctic Circle marks the border of the Arctic region. In fall and winter, being this far north in latitude gives you the best chance of experiencing the northern lights. On this day we sail through the glorious Lofoten Islands.
DAY 7: Stokmarknes - Skjervøy
Get ready for a day full of exciting activities! Visiting Risøyhamn, Harstad, Finnsnes, and the capital of the Arctic, Tromsø, where you can join several excursions such as husky dog sledding, polar history walks, and mountain hikes.
DAY 8: Øksfjord - Berlevåg
Enjoy the magnificent sub-Arctic landscape as we cross the 71st parallel on our journey toward the North Cape, the northernmost point on the continent. In winter, experience the snow-clad valleys, the fresh winter air, and your best chances to see the mesmerizing northern lights.
DAY 9: Båtsfjord - Kirkenes
The vistas become more dramatic as we approach Kirkenes, just a few miles from the Russian border. This is Hurtigruten’s turning point, and the end of the Classic Voyage North. Kirkenes is known as the capital of the Barents region and the gateway to the east.
You will disembark from the ship in Kirkenes and transfer to the airport for your flight back to Oslo.
In Oslo, you will spend one night at a centrally-located hotel with breakfast. You may extend your vacation and stay an extra night in Oslo for additional cost.
DAY 10: Norway to US
Transfer to the airport and take your return flight to the US via SAS.
