View in map View sailing messages MS Spitsbergen After the 2016/2017 season traveling along coastal Norway, MS Spitsbergen will alternate between the Norwegian coast and polar expeditions starting in May, 2017. Our newest ship, MS Spitsbergen, is named after the island of Spitsbergen in the Svalbard archipelago, and Spitsbergen is the Arctic crown of Norway. Hurtigruten as a long history of traveling to this destination, starting back in 1896 with the ‘Sports Route’. Joining the fleet in 2016, the MS Spitsbergen’s maneuverability and optimal size make her especially suitable for exploring the coast of Norway and beyond, brining Hurtigruten guests even closer to nature. The interior of this modern and environmentally-friendly ship was designed by Tillberg of Sweden, the world's leading marine architecture and interior design firm. Inaugural Season, Summer 2016 View Departures Our new vessel will be starting her operation along the Norwegian coast on special itineraries from July – August, 2016. These special inaugural voyages will have an exclusive itinerary featuring an intensive ‘best of Norway’s fjords’ route with added flexibility for hikes and wildlife viewing. Because MS Spitsbergen is not on the ‘working ships’ route like the rest of the Hurtigruten fleet, there will be no port stops during the night, providing more time to enjoy daytime ports and activities. Remainder of the 2016/2017 Season with MS Spitsbergen Starting in the fall of 2016 and during the winter 2016/2017 season, MS Spitsbergen will travel along the Norwegian coastline following the same route as the other ships on the Classic Coastal Voyages. 2017/2018 Season with MS Spitsbergen After the 2016/2017 season traveling along the coast of Norway, MS Spitsbergen will alternate between the Norwegian coast and polar expeditions. Starting in May, 2017, guests can sail on MS Spitsbergen to Greenland, Iceland, the Faroe and Shetland Islands, as well as to Arctic Canada. In 2017/2018, MS Spitsbergen voyages along the Norwegian coast will operate as expedition ships with expedition teams, the ideal choice for those who want to explore the coast in an active way. Situated on upper deck, you can enjoy the most comfortable suites on board. Inside you will find seating areas with TV, bathrooms with shower/wc and most of them have double beds. All of the suites offer cabin kits, which contains bathrobe, slippers and other beauty articles. Some of the suites do have more facilities than others. Most of them have separate beds, where one doubles as a sofa, and some have double beds. All the cabins have individual specifications.
