Sea Zero
For an emission-free future
Channelling the same pioneering spirit as our first voyage in 1893, we are embarking on a journey to build our first fully zero-emission ship for The Coastal Express by 2030. It is the most ambitious sustainability initiative in our 130-year history.
To reach Sea Zero, we are partnering with science-institute SINTEF to explore exciting, state-of-the-art solutions in energy efficiency and battery electric power.

MS Trollfjord
Flagship of The Svalbard Express and The North Cape Express, MS Trollfjord takes its name from a small but spectacular fjord in the Vesterålen archipelago.
MS Kong Harald
Norway’s reigning monarch, a seasoned sailor, lends his name to this remarkable hybrid vessel.
MS Maud
Formerly MS Midnatsol, MS Maud was renamed in honour of the ship that brought Norwegian polar explorer Roald Amundsen through the Northeast Passage.
MS Nordkapp
MS Nordkapp is named after the northernmost point on mainland Europe: North Cape (71ºN) - one of the geographical highpoints you can visit on a Hurtigruten voyage.
MS Nordlys
Both the name and the interior design of this modern ship are inspired by the spectacular Northern Lights.
MS Nordnorge
MS Nordnorge is aptly named for northern Norway, most of which lies above the Arctic Circle.
MS Nordstjernen
MS Nordstjernen is named after the North Star or Stella Polaris, famous for helping seafarers find their way back home and the Vikings to navigate the north.
MS Otto Sverdrup
MS Otto Sverdrup is a hybrid-powered ship sailing year-round to handpicked highlights of the Norwegian coast, departing from Hamburg to North Cape in northern Norway and back.
MS Polarlys
Polarlys is Norwegian for `polar light´, and refers to the natural Arctic phenomenon we pursue in winter.
MS Richard With
MS Richard With proudly carries the name of Hurtigruten's founder.
MS Vesterålen (traditional ship)
MS Vesterålen is one of the oldest and smallest ships, named after an archipelago in Nordland country and the first Original Coastal Express steamship from 1893.
