On September 12, 2016, Travel Weekly announced the winners of the 2016 Magellan Awards. The Magellan Awards honor a broad range of industry segments including Hospitality, Travel Destinations, Cruise Lines, Online Travel Services, Travel Agents and Agencies, and Tour Operators. With entries from across the US and around the world, the Magellan Award winners represent the best in the travel industry.
Hurtigruten is proud to announce that we have received a silver award in the Cruise Lines category for the ‘Leif Erikson’ route, our Adventure of the Vinland Sagas voyage. This incredible 15-day expedition follows in the wake of Norse settlers who traveled extreme distances more than 1,000 years ago. Starting in Iceland, we sail to Greenland and then to Labrador and Newfoundland, in Arctic Canada. In addition to the spectacular and varied nature of these areas, this voyage explores various historic reconstructions and ruins from the Norse period, with particular emphasis on locations settled by Erik the Red in Greenland, and by his son, Leif Erikson, in North America. On this voyage all the places we visit boast fascinating Viking history and astonishing natural beauty.
“This year’s winners continue to raise the bar, establishing themselves as not just the most
talented and creative people in the travel industry but among the most creative and talented of
any industry,” said Arnie Weissmann, editor in chief of Travel Weekly. “The creativity that travel industry marketers and designers display to inspire travel and enhance the travel experience continues to impress our expert judges and readers.”
The Magellan Awards are judged by a panel of top travel professionals representing the best names and most accomplished leaders from the travel industry. In determining winners, entries do not compete with one another, instead they are judged against a standard of excellence. To uphold this high standard of excellence, a category may have multiple winners.
