Hurtigruten's Expedition Team Explores the US

Hurtigruten expedition team members are coming to a location near you in September and October, 2016. Attend these events to meet one of these expedition team members.

At the events below you can hear tales from Hurtigruten expedition team members who will draw you into their voyages, spark your curiosity, and show you what it’s like to be a professional explorer. We understand the draw of travel, the desire to push yourself on a true expedition, the need to learn and discover, and the power of memories. Create your own unforgettable memories by attending a Hurtigruten event near you.

The View from an Expedition Team Member's Office

When your ‘office’ is located in some of the most remote wilderness in the world, coming to work every day is an adventure filled with vast landscapes, wildlife, and glaciers. But this job also demands preparation, fitness, and an explorer mindset to be prepared for anything. For Hurtigruten expedition team members, their office supplies are kayaks, landing craft designed specifically for exploration, and a pair of binoculars. On any given day, their ‘coworkers’ could be elephant seals or penguins, and they don’t always cooperate or show up on time.

At these events, you will:

  • Discover all of Hurtigruten’s expedition destinations – in the extreme polar areas such as Antarctica and Greenland as well as warmer destinations such as Europe and South America
  • Discover what it means to travel expedition style on a Hurtigruten voyage
  • Learn about the exotic wildlife you’ll see on an expedition voyage
  • Explore the natural history of remote areas like Antarctica and Arctic Canada and the fascinating cultures of Europe, Morocco, and South America
  • Hear epic tales from real-life adventurers
  • Get answers to your questions about expedition travel
  • Receive special offers on Hurtigruten expeditions

Attend these events to meet a member of our expedition team. Please see the information below for more information and to RSVP.

Featured Speakers

We understand your sense of adventure and love of nature. Like you, we embrace our inner explorer and that’s why we want you to meet one of our impressive expedition leaders in person in a city near you.

  Ralf Westphal
Expedition Leader
Olav Orheim
Glaciologist / Climatologist
The making of this explorer started with his work as an Outward Bound instructor helping at-risk youth. This experience amplified his passion for nature, particularly in the Arctic and Antarctic regions. Ralf pursued a career as an outdoor professional, which led to prominent positions as a sea kayak guide and polar bear guide. These experiences, combined with his work as an ethnographical researcher and polar historian, contribute to his inescapable love affair with nature and his impressive expertise in the outdoors and expedition travel. Renowned as one of the world’s leading geologists, Olav’s list of accomplishments is long. He held a professorship in glaciology for nearly two decades at the University of Bergen; helped establish Troll Station, Norway's permanent research station in Antarctica; and chairs the boards of the Fram Museum in Oslo and GRID-A, a non-profit environmental foundation created to support the United Nations. He’s led numerous scientific expeditions in the Arctic and Antarctica, and Olav’s expedition stories will have you on the edge of your seat.
