HELLO NPR LISTENERS,
In Norwegian, Hurtigruten means 'the fast way'. We began over 125 years ago as a ferry system along the west coast of Norway. Our nimble ships were the fastest way to travel between and through the fjords.
Since the first explorer to set foot on Antarctica (Roald Amundsen) was Norwegian, it seemed only natural for us to expand our voyages to the land of the penguins, too. Our MS Fram has been traveling to Antarctica since 2002, and our MS Midnatsol expands our southern hemisphere voyages to include the fjords of Chile.
For more on our voyages, see below.
