FOUR NEW EXPEDITION SHIPS
The expansion of Hurtigruten’s expedition fleet continues with plans to build four new ships – the first two to be introduced in the summers 2018 and 2019. These powerful state-of-the-art expedition vessels will be built in Norway by Norwegian shipbuilder Kleven to better navigate in polar regions and will host unique expedition voyages to the shores of Antarctica as well as across the North Sea.
Developed by Rolls-Royce®, who brought in celebrated Norwegian ship designer Espen Øino to collaborate on design, our new ships will have sleek lines reminiscent of King Olav V of Norway’s 1962 Rolls Royce Phantom V limousine, making them not only some of the most technologically advanced polar expedition vessels in the world, but also the most beautiful.

MS SPITSBERGEN WITH NEW ITINERARIES
On July 6 we will welcome the new MS Spitsbergen to the Hurtigruten fleet with a first-of-its-kind christening under the midnight sun. Hurtigruten’s MS Midnatsol and MS Richard With will also be berthed in Svolvaer, Norway, for the celebration. In the stunning Lofoten Islands, Svolvaer is above the 68th parallel and 116 miles north of the Arctic Circle, well within the realm of endless, glowing summer days.
The MS Spitsbergen, a 300-foot, 100-cabin explorer cruise ship, was named for the Svalbard archipelago’s largest island.
